Park Politics by Brian Edwards

Park Politics

Somewhere, over there,
a man with a megaphone
has big, big plans.

But here, there's
a drunk about to sing,
a jogger fit to burst,
the simple reassurance of a canine act.

And up there's
all wing and industry,
the trees are dealing
and the only currency is twig.

Nobody with well-thought out plans ever had need for a megaphone and nobody with a megaphone ever had want for plans over a certain immanent magnitude. megaphones are for casuists. megaphones are mumpsimus maximus fast. Megaphones grate on ears actually trained to listen and understand. megaphones are a mass manipulaticon loved by riot-starters of every stripe and even more by moralists of any unbearable type.

You sound like you are typing through a megaphone.

Really like this, Brian. An "in the moment" calming poem.
